If there?™s one thing Metallica know how to do other than cutting blistering tracks and aurally assaulting adoring fans, it?™s defying bootleggers. Not only were they responsible for vanquishing Napster in a big way, but they also killed their potential live pirates with kindness, releasing high-quality soundboard recordings of most of their concerts on their own site. With the band currently working on producing a follow-up to 2008?™s Death Magnetic - something James Hetfield has promised is firmly on its way, times are good for Metallica fans. And unlike some bands who live and die on their album releases, the best thing about being part of the Metallica Family is the band's seemingly relentless commitment to touring. Given how incredible the live show is, that's not at all surprising.

Every Metallica album ranked from worst to best. Okay, so chances are any live album – bar maybe Live At Leeds or No Sleep Til Hammersmith – will struggle to break the upper echelons in a list like this. Live albums as a concept are flawed: they're full of annoying people shouting, none of the songs sound quite as good as they should and the sound quality's often shite. They're the studio album's poor relation; uninspiring space fillers. That is, until you stumble across S&M. An abbreviation of 'symphony and Metallica', by any measure, S&M is a huge triumph. Before his death in 2013, Lou Reed hailed Lulu as The best thing I ever did. His old pal David Bowie called this collaboration with Metallica a masterpiece. But Metallica fans were largely less complimentary, with one long-time supporter describing the album as a catastrophic failure on almost every level.

Death Magnetic was the ninth studio album released by Metallica, in 2008. It was the first album sinc. nd Justice For All not produced by Bob Rock. Musically, the album featured more complex song structure than St. Anger, including guitar solos and a return to the thrash metal stylings of their first 4 albums. Instead of Bob Rock, Rick Rubin was employed as producer. The album was named best album of 2008 by both Kerrang! and Metal Hammer magazines. Metallica is like the phoenix rising from the ashes

Like Death Magnetic, Metallica’s latest is an attempt to revisit their early days. to Self-Destruct, a two-disc collection demarcated not by a leap into the unknown, but into the halcyon days of their youth nearly three decades ago during thrash’s primordial period, when impulsivity amounted to unpredictable fretwork, breakneck rhythms, and discarded pretenses
