Weird Scenes Inside the Gold Mine is the second compilation album by American rock band The Doors (following 13) and the first following the death of singer Jim Morrison, released in January 1972. The album's title is a lyric from the song "The En. Back in 1982 when I started college, my roommate brought along his vinyl copy of Weird Scenes Inside the Gold Mine. I had been a casual Doors fan by that time with the release of the Greatest Hits collection in 1980, but I hadn't yet bonded with the group. As we played the four sides of this album in our dorm room, I saw that the Doors were more than just a greatest hits band, but a really significant band from the whole wave of music of the late '60s. These songs show Morrison's vocal and lyrical talents in ways that overplayed songs like Hello I Love You never can.
