Originally released in 1972, Weird Scenes Inside the Gold Mine was one of the earliest "best-of" Doors collections, compiling 22 tracks from the band not just limited to their many ubiquitous hits but including some more experimental tunes and a few obscure B-sides. This strange and sprawling playlist is heavy on material from . Woman, and seems particularly invested in the darker, more sinister side of the band. Long out-of-print, this gold-certified double album was the first compilation to be released after Jim Morrison’s death in 1971. Beautiful and rare in equal measure, production of this translucent amber swirled vinyl set is limited to 5,500 numbered copies worldwide. Doors the weird scenes inside the gold mine. Exclusive discount for Prime members. Sample this album Artist (Sample). Back in 1982 when I started college, my roommate brought along his vinyl copy of Weird Scenes Inside the Gold Mine. I had been a casual Doors fan by that time with the release of the Greatest Hits collection in 1980, but I hadn't yet bonded with the group. As we played the four sides of this album in our dorm room, I saw that the Doors were more than just a greatest hits band, but a really significant band from the whole wave of music of the late '60s. These songs show Morrison's vocal and lyrical talents in ways that overplayed songs like Hello I Love You never can.
