James Hamish Stuart (born 8 October 1949, Glasgow, Scotland) is a guitarist, bassist, singer, composer and record producer. He had been an original member of the Average White Band. Apart from playing with his own group, the Hamish Stuart Band, and with his fellow Glaswegian guitarist and friend Jim Mullen, Stuart has also produced Gordon Haskell and the Swedish singer-songwriter Meja. In 2006, Stuart toured as the bass player with Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band.

Nearly two decades after the breakup of the Average White Band - whose success was largely due to Hamish Stuart's blue-eyed soul vocals and songwriting - comes his first solo album. But remarkably, Sooner or Later sounds like it was recorded near the group's prime. Although the harder edge of Average White Band has softened into a mid-tempo, jazz/blues/adult pop approach not far removed from Michael McDonald, Stuart's instantly recognizable, R&B-drenched voice hasn't changed
