In 1956, Swedish trumpeter Rolf Ericson headed an American group for a tour of his native land. Unfortunately, the group (also consisting of baritonist Cecil Payne, pianist Duke Jordan, bassist John Simmons and drummer Art Taylor) included several drug addicts, and after two of the musicians got in trouble, all four Americans were sent home

Rolf Ericson (August 29, 1922 – June 16, 1997) was a Swedish jazz trumpeter. He also played the flugelhorn. He moved to New York City in 1947 and in 1949 joined Charlie Barnet's big band and with Woody Herman in 1950. Later he worked with Paul Gonsalves, Charlie Parker, Lars Gullin, and Charles Mingus. Returning to Sweden in 1950, he recorded as a leader and with Arne Domnérus, as well as for Leonard Feather's Swinging Swedes. He returned to the .

Ernestine Anderson (November 11, 1928 – March 10, 2016) was an American jazz and blues singer. In a career spanning more than six decades, she recorded over 30 albums. She was nominated four times for a Grammy Award. She sang at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Monterey Jazz Festival (six times over a 33-year span), as well as at jazz festivals all over the world. In the early 1990s she joined Qwest Records, the label of fellow Garfield High School grad Quincy Jones.

No, there's nothing wrong with your ears. We just stopped the music because you haven't touched the player in a while. Hey, you haven't touched the player in a while. You still there? Keep Listening. Whoa, are you in two places at once?

Although Ernestine Anderson had toured with moderate success in the bands of Russell Jacquet, Johnny Otis, and Lionel Hampton, and had been heard very briefly on a Gigi Gryce LP, she was more or less an unknown in the States until, in the spring of 1956, the Swedish trumpeter Rolf Ericson asked her to join a combo he was taking over to tour. With them were Cecil Payne, Duke Jordan, John Simmons, and Art Taylor. Ernestines debut was a musical landmark. She was an overnight sensation, and soon she recorded a 7 EP accompanied by Duke Jordans trio. Mercury issued the LP in the US two years later and called it 'Hot Cargo,' despite the disapproval of its producer, Börje Ekberg, and Anderson. Whatever the title, it is still time for Ernestine.
