The 11th volume of this venerated series is split about half between out-and-out classics from rock & roll's first decade and considerably lesser-known (and usually much lower-charting) items from the same period.

The Golden Age of Rock 'n' Roll" is a single by Mott the Hoople, from 1974's The Hoople. It reached number 16 on the UK Singles Chart. Performed live by Mott, "The Golden Age of Rock 'n' Roll" would usually follow a piano take on the first verse of Don McLean's "American Pie", hence following the latter's statement, "The day the music died". Ian Hunter would declare: "Or did it? Ladies and gentlemen, The Golden Age of Rock 'n' Roll!", whereupon the whole band launched into the song.

As you’d expect from anything carrying the Golden Age brand, there is plenty of variety, so there are some great less up-tempo moments too, like Shy Girl, a gorgeous 1963 slowie by harmony specialists the Cascades; smoky-voiced Sammy Turner’s revival of Irving Berlin’s Always, built around a wonderful sax riff by King Curtis; This I Swear by the.

The Golden Age of Grotesque is the fifth studio album by Marilyn Manson, released on May 5, 2003 by Interscope Records. It incorporates themes from the glamorous Swing era of the thirties, as well as from the Weimar Republic of pre-Nazi Germany. It spawned two singles ("mOBSCENE" and "This Is the New Shit"). It was revealed in a 2007 interview with Kerrang! that this was intended to be Marilyn Manson's departure from music, however his divorce drove him to write the album's successor, Eat Me, Drink Me.
