The Ghost of the Mountain is the second album by Tired Pony, released on 19 August 2013 in the United Kingdom and on 1 October 2013 in the United States. The album was recorded between February and March, 2013, at Jacknife Lee's studio in Topanga Canyon. It feels like a fully formed band in full flight", says Lightbody about the album. This album features harmony vocals from Minnie Driver, Bronagh Gallagher and Kim Topper.

Tired Pony began recording their second album The Ghost of the Mountain on 19 February 2013, which was released on 19 August 2013. Tired Pony was formed by Gary Lightbody (of Snow Patrol), who had a "long-term ambition" of making a country album. He revealed the project's existence in May 2009. In the interview, he expressed his love for country music, which he said he had loved for a long time: "I always thought I had a country album in me and it turns out I di. The rest of Snow Patrol expressed excitement for their band-mate, "delighted that getting to exercise all his crazy ideas.

The foot crunched snow And there's a lifetime in the space between your steps You weren't to know I was ending as you stole out in the white Your final kiss Is a ghost upon my lips upon my eyes A pale blue sky Hangs like a sad remainder of the sum of us If I'm ready for the next. world then I'm ready for the deepest earth If there's a magic in the after It'll never beat the sight of you It'll never beat the sight of you I'm not a man I'm just a shadow just a fragment just a ghost The best of me It was never quite the best that you deserved You. are.

Vocalist Gary Lightbody explained the album's "ghost" references to The Sun: "The first song I wrote for the album was the title track and the male character dies in that song, so I thought, s--, what do I do now? I've just killed him' So each song is about a memory of their lives. This gospel-soul song is so crushingly sad that Lightbody claims to have broken down and cried after he'd written it. Every song on The Ghost Of The Mountain album is a chapter in the story of two lovers on the run from the law. Gary Lightbody explained to MTV News: "The first album was written about invented characters and this album continues their story. Each song picks them up at different points in their life, so in terms of narrative storytelling it's sort of like Tarantino.

Something of a gentler, more Americana-style Snow Patrol, Tired Pony's songs provide space for Lightbody's lyrics and imagery to breathe. However, with Blood soon thinking better of its Motown groove, most of the songs chug along at the same pace, which makes any surprises more than welcome: Punishment packs a fat electro beat, while The Beginning of the End and Ravens And Wolves nod big black hats to mid-period Sisters of Mercy's widescreen goth. Lightbody throws in some self-effacing humour – "Here am I, a right mess/ Here you are in the right dress" – and an F-word.
