The Lucksmiths were an Australian indie pop band formed in March 1993 by Marty Donald on guitar, Mark Monnone on bass guitar and Tali White on drums and lead vocals. Louis Richter (ex-Mid State Orange) joined on guitar in 2005

Australia's Lucksmiths released their second rarities disc, Where Were We?, in early 2002. The disc was released on Matinee Recordings in the United States. Having released a collection of their early singles in 1999 on Happy Secret, the band compiled another batch of demos, compilation tracks, and outtakes three years later. The trio's acclaimed style of simple and broken-down indie pop continued to make waves around the globe.

Where Were We? foams with the effervescence of summer, yet it's lightly soured with the melancholy of slipping into autumn. The lads get girls and lose them; they have a pleasant evening at the pub, but the local football team loses a match. It's an album- hey, a life- of light highs and okay lows. And did I mention that the weather's great? This Australian trio follows a tradition going back to Chad & Jeremy in the 60s, singing "A Summer Song" to your mom on her 45 player. Happy Secret is the only other Lucksmiths album I've spent time with and it's much subtler- even recommended, if this sounds like your kind of warm-weather driving music. But Where Were We? is strictly for the fans, and it's too bad that a band this obscure would take a chance on releasing it.

If there was ever a competition for "world's most charming indie band", Australia's Lucksmiths would win it hands down. Like any good indie band, the Lucksmiths have amassed quite a few singles and compilation tracks over the years. Ten of these such were compiled on 1998's Happy Secret, and now the trend continues with Where Were We?, a collection of fourteen of the band's A-sides, B-sides, compilation tracks, and other such ephemera and rarities. As such, it's not only a must for fans of the band (although diehards will probably already own much of this), but an excellent primer for the Lucksmiths newcomer. Stroke Manor, the new album by Scott McCaughey's band, the Minus 5, is a testament to music therapy, and a rockin' good time.

This song is by The Lucksmiths and appears on the album Where Were We? (2002)
