Live At The Artist's Quarter (CD, Album).
Quartet is the eighth album by Bill Frisell to be released on the Elektra Nonesuch label. It was released in 1996 and features performances by Frisell, Ron Miles, Curtis Fowlkes and Eyvind Kang. Tracks 1, 5, 6, 7, 9, and 12 are from Tales From the Far Side (1994), an animated television special created by Gary Larson. Tracks 3 and 13 are from the Italian film La scuola (1995) directed by Daniele Luchetti. Tracks 4 and 10 were written for the Buster Keaton film Convict 13 (1920).
Later this month, Bill McHenry will release a new album's worth of this music - his third with his current quartet - called Ghosts of the Sun. But before that, he plays a week at the Village Vanguard with a completely different lineup, including the great seasoned drummer Andrew Cyrille. NPR Music and WBGO presented a live video webcast and radio broadcast of the Bill McHenry Quartet from the club Wednesday, Nov. 9, in which McHenry played some of the tunes on the new album. McHenry has now led five records with a quartet featuring guitarist Ben Monder, plus one disc of duets. Compositions by Bill McHenry unless otherwise noted.

Eric Alexander and David Hazeltine at the Artists' Quarter in 2013. The Artists' Quarter (. the AQ) was a well-known, musician-owned and operated jazz club in the Twin Cities. The club opened in the early 1970s in Minneapolis, Minnesota at 26th street and Nicollet Avenue south. After the original club closed in 1990, drummer Kenny Horst opened a new location at the corner of Fifth and Jackson streets in Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1995. Roy Haynes earned a Grammy nomination for his drum solo, Hippidy Hop, from the live album Whereas, recorded at the club over the weekend of January 20, 2006 (which mayor Chris Coleman officially proclaimed Roy Haynes Weekend ).
