Warp brings forth Nice Nice, whose album, EXTRA WOW, continues their increasing incorporation of rock into their roster. With a thickness to their sound, they thump their way through these tracks, with a few electronics additions here and there, like the bleeps on "On and On" or the video game undercurrent of "See Waves. But for the most part, it's fuzzed out guitars and thudding drums

Nice Nice is from Portland, Oregon. Jason Buehler and Mark Shirazi have been using their guitars, drums, voices, electronics and lots of other stuff to create their 'post-everything modern music' for nearly a decade. By playing countless kinetic live shows around the US, they've honed their unorthodox craft. Their Warp Records debut, Extra Wow, is an extremely apt title for an album that presents itself as a constantly unfolding collection of kaleidoscopic musical sediments. Each song effectively builds on the one before it to create the effect of an album-length crescendo that.

Album · 2010 · 14 Songs. Extra Wow (Bonus Track). 14 Songs, 53 Minutes. Released: 5 Apr 2010. 2010 Warp Records Limited.

Nice Nice made inroads releasing four EPs in 2005/6 in dedication to the seasons, featuring long, languid drones that quite contentedly went nowhere for 10 minutes. While the sounds were often fascinating, they proved that too much of a good thing can eventually bore. From the first note of Extra Wow, however, it’s apparent that they’ve sharpened up. The best example of this is One Hit, a tense song bristling with deep percussive hits that lurch you toward the edge of a musical precipice.

  • Warp brings forth Nice Nice, whose album, EXTRA WOW, continues their increasing incorporation of rock into their roster. With a thickness to their sound, they thump their way through these tracks, with a few electronics additions here and there, like the bleeps on "On and On" or the video game undercurrent of "See Waves." But for the most part, it's fuzzed out guitars and thudding drums. They do add a nice off-kilter rhythm to "Everything Falling Apart," a sunny Jamaican vibe to "Big Bounce," psychedelic chanting on "A Little Love," and even some harps and other stringed instrumentals on "New Cascade." The album is nice, not quite nice nice, and just regular wow, instead of extra.
