The Octet in F major, D. 803 was composed by Franz Schubert in March 1824. It was commissioned by the renowned clarinetist Ferdinand Troyer and came from the same period as two of Schubert's other major chamber works, the 'Rosamunde' and 'Death and the Maiden' string quartets. Consisting of six movements, the Octet takes almost an hour to perform. Adagio – Allegro – Più allegro. Allegro vivace – Trio – Allegro vivace. Andante – variations. Un poco più mosso – Più lento.

For the OSM Chamber Soloists, recording Franz Schubert’s Octet in F major, D. 803, was the logical next step after Beethoven’s Septet in E-flat major, Op. 20, their first album released in January 2018, because of the fact that Beethoven’s work was Schubert’s reference for his Octet. For this new album, the OSM Chamber Soloists consist of Andrew Wan on violin, Olivier Thouin on violin, Victor Fournelle-Blain on viola, Brian Manker on cello, Ali Kian Yazdanfar on double bass, Todd Cope on clarinet, Stéphane Lévesque on bassoon and John Zirbel on horn.

Franz Schubert composed his Octet in F major, D. 803, in 1824. It was comissioned by clarinetist Ferdinand Troyer, who requested a piece similar to Beethoven's Op. 20 Septet. Schubert arguably based the movement structure of his piece in Beethoven's septet, though he derived the theme for the first movement of his Octet from his own lied 'Der Wanderer'. He also inserted a set of variations in the fourth movement, based on a a theme from his 'Die Freunde von Salamanka' singspiel. The Octet consists of six movements, takes about.
