Notes

recordet nov/dez 1982

The Prisoner is the seventh album by Herbie Hancock, his final on the Blue Note label, released and recorded in 1969. His next record would be on Warner Bros. Hancock confessed in 1969 that he had been able to get closer to his real self with this album than on any other previous ones. He praised flute player Hubert Laws and his merits on the album, also pointing out that Laws was one of the finest flute players in classical or jazz music. Just like his ambitious Speak Like a Child, The Prisoner stands as an example of "social statement written in music". The title track wants to express "how black people have been imprisoned for a long time. The piece was first heard live in 1968, during a performance at University of California Jazz Festival.

Treasure Island is the second album on the Impulse! label by jazz pianist Keith Jarrett. Originally released in 1974, it features performances by Jarrett, Dewey Redman, Charlie Haden, Paul Motian, and Danny Johnson. In 2009, the album was reissued in a digipak case by Verve Music Group/Universal Music Group

The treasure, of course, never materializes. And the 1898 Times description of the scam’s broad outlines remains remarkably accurate, save for a few technological details

by Robert Louis Stevenson. Squire Trelawney has found them a ship. It's called the Hispaniola, named after the Caribbean island that's home to the modern states of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Unfortunately, in hiring this ship, Squire Trelawney has also told everyone in Bristol that he's on a treasure hunt. Jim knows that Squire Trelawney's chattiness won't make Doctor Livesey happy. Tom Redruth, one of the squire's servants, who is reading the letter alongside Jim, thinks Squire Trelawney should be allowed to do whatever he wants since he's a squire.
