Albums: A Psych Tribute To The Doors ‎. Released: 2014. It seemed like it could have been all concept, but the execution might have fallen short. After listening to the whole CD I can say this is a tribute album that actually pays tribute to the band they’re covering. I’ve never heard of any of the bands on the CD before, but each one has a completely different take on The Doors song they chose

It prominently features John Surman on saxophone and Tony Oxley on drums. McLaughlin composed the number ‘Binky’s Beam’ as a tribute to his friend, the innovative bass player Binky McKenzie. The album's post-bop style is quite different than McLaughlin's later fusion works, though it gradually developed a strong reputation among critics by the mid-1970s. McLaughlin moved to the . in 1969 to join Tony Williams' group Lifetime. In 1993 he released a Bill Evans tribute album entitled Time Remembered: John McLaughlin Plays Bill Evans, with McLaughlin's acoustic guitar backed by the acoustic guitars of the Aighetta Quartet and the acoustic bass of Yan Maresz. In recent times McLaughlin has toured with Remember Shakti.

A Tribute to John Mellencamp. Tribute to John Mellencamp features a faceless group of studio musicians running through respectable versions of 12 JCM faves. The set shows some restraint, given Mellencamp's sizable batch of hits. While there are bar band versions of "Jack & Diane," "Pink Houses," and "Small Town," the album also tackles the lighthearted-'60s pop of "Key West Intermezzo," the sobering "Jackie Brown," and "Human Wheels," which seems like the strongest track here with its mildly flanged vocal effect and mandolin leads.

For Paul Morley John Surman was as formative an influence as Bowie and Bolan, Roxy Music and Joy Division.

  • Tim Paris demonstrates to perfection with his mix the atmospherics, the mood and the will to search for new exciting sounds and rhythms that are reference to one of UK’s leading saxmen John Surman and major asset to the famous ECM label catalogue . with serene interwoven melodies as well as fresh sounds bytes and mind-altering technical gadgetry strung together by a loose tech-boogie beat. TEKEL’s contribution is the most straight forward: a busy tech-shaker with a scraping bassline and synth lines striking like bolts from the blue. I:CUBE’s take is very delicate with a impromptu grassroots tribal riddim made of handclaps and few percussion paired with layers of intertwined sweet, childlike melodies that are close to stumble over each other and getting drained in echo.expect to be surprised and step into tomorrow!
