Paula is the seventh studio album by American recording artist Robin Thicke. The album's official release date was July 1, 2014, though it was streamed by Thicke's record company a day early, on June 30, 2014. The album, released by Star Trak Entertainment and Interscope Records, served as a tribute to his estranged wife Paula Patton. The album was supported by the single "Get Her Back".
Robin Thicke Names His Next Album ‘Paula’ (Report). If performing the lead single "Get Her Back" at the Billboard Music Awards wasn't enough of a tip off, too, now we have all those suspicions confirmed with Thicke's new album artwork and track list. Thicke's not keeping anything to himself with song titles like "You're My Fantasy" and "Too Little Too Late". Thicke was on the Steve Harvey's morning radio show recently, and told the host he wrote the album in about a week
If Robin Thicke needed a lesson in the consequences of disrespecting a woman’s boundaries after his controversial 2013 hit Blurred Lines, here it is. The blue-eyed-soul singer named his new LP after his estranged wife, Paula Patton, and he spends much of it croon- ing about lost love in a weepy timbre or making bluesman appeals on hyperliteral tracks like Get Her Back. His soft falsetto is sumptuous, but too many tracks veer into uncomfortable parody, including a self-satis- fied James Brown impression ( Living in New York ). It’s a shame about the heartbreak in Thicke’s life
First-week sales: 24,000. Why it bombed: An album dedicated to your estranged wife sounds like a promising idea. Except when the record turns out to be a creepy, hastily crafted mea culpa like this one. From begging for his actress wife to take him back during every performance to teaming with 1-800-Flowers for branded bouquets, Thicke's follow-up to the massive "Blurred Lines" went down in flames.
Robin Thicke texts his estranged wife, Paula Patton, in the music video for the pointedly titled "Get Her Back," the lead single from said album, Paula. I don't care," she replies. And it's likely no one else will either. If I were Thicke, I would be embarrassed, let alone mortified that my album sold 530 copies in the UK, 550 in Canada, and 158 in Australia in its first week (don't expect future weekly sales to be any higher. "Paula", in the end, doesn't only sound desperate to win/get Paula Patton back, but, instead, a plea to fans not to forget him (it was released less than a year after his last album!. xpand. 1 of 1 users found this helpful.
ew-album-paula I dunno why, but part of me actually wants to listen to this and I’m not even a huge Robin Thicke fan. Will wait til you guys give your opinions before I check it out though. I mean if somebody were to make an album to try and win me back, that’s cool, but to market it like he has and monetize it is kind of taking advantage of the situation.
Robin Thicke's Paula Gets His Sound Back, Not His Self-Respect. Star Trak, Interscope. By Katherine St. Asaph. This is not a good year to be Robin Thicke. If you believe the headlines, his love life is currently in a state of unmitigated disaster, and his public image might be even worse as he releases his seventh studio album, Paula – named after his very publicly ex-wife Paula Patton
