Waltz for Debby is a live album by jazz pianist and composer Bill Evans and his Trio consisting of Evans, bassist Scott LaFaro, and drummer Paul Motian. It was released in 1962. The album was the fourth and final effort from the unit-LaFaro died in a car accident just ten days after the live date at the Village Vanguard from which Waltz for Debby and its predecessor, Sunday at the Village Vanguard were taken. The loss of LaFaro hit Evans hard, and he went into a brief seclusion

This album is interesting for another reason. It was recorded live for Riverside on May 30 and 31, 1963 while Milestone Records was recording the same performances for their album titled Time Remembered. While each album has different tracks with no common ones between them, both capture the same beautiful performances. And make no mistake, the music is so beautiful to my ears that the only word I can think of to describe it is 'exquisite'
After one listen, my thoughts are very positive for this release. After all its Bill on Verve so, what am I gonna say that stands out. My overall feeling is the recording is too short as I really enjoyed side B where the merging of the Orchestra and Trio really unfold nicely. Reply Notify me Helpful.
