Sweetest Thing" is a song by Irish rock band U2. It was originally released as a B-side on the "Where the Streets Have No Name" single in 1987. The song was later re-recorded and re-released, as a single in October 1998 for the band's compilation album, The Best of 1980-1990. The song was reportedly written by Bono as an apology to his wife Ali Hewson for having to work in the studio on her birthday during The Joshua Tree sessions.

Sweetest Thing was written by Bono to make up to his wife Ali for having to be in the studio recording on her birthday: Ali agreed to be featured in the video for the remake. if the proceeds from the single went to The Chernobyl Children's Project. Both the release of the single and the subsequent 2-CD compilation featured Peter Rowan in the artwork for the sleeve.
