One for Helen (Evans) - 4:24. Bill Evans' 1968 release, At the Montreux Jazz Festival, marks the beginning of stylistic changes for the legendary pianist. Only one year earlier, his At Town Hall release found his approach generally more introspective and brooding. In contrast, this set is more lively, playful, and experimental. Much of this is down to the active and intense drumming of Jack DeJohnette, who had joined the trio only a short time before this concert was recorded; longtime bandmate Eddie Gomez is also featured on this album. His energetic soloing adds veracity to tunes such as "Embraceable You".

The album won the 1969 Grammy for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, Individual or Group.

Bill Evans Format: Vinyl. The CD product page is missing them, but you can listen to snippets on the MP3 album's product page at Bill Evans - At The Montreux Jazz Festival. In this case, though, the sound samples do not begin to convey the music. Partly because Evans give both Gomez and DeJohnette a lot of leeway and they take it. Of course, Evans characteristically gave his rhythm sections a lot of space and especially on this album you can hear some amazing solo work. I especially like DeJohnette's work, both in a supporting role as well as in a solo context
