This two-LP series was quickly released after the big success of Benny Goodman's best-selling 1938 Carnegie Hall Concert set. Labeled No. 2, these excellent aircheck performances have no relation to the Carnegie Hall concert except for the time period. The Benny Goodman Orchestra and small groups often sounded much more exciting live in concert than on their studio recordings and one can really tell from these performances why drummer Gene Krupa was so popular, and a thorn in BG's side.
