Happy People/U Saved Me is the sixth studio album and the second double album by R&B singer R. Kelly, where he mixed feel-good danceable soul records (Happy People) with gospel anthems (U Saved Me). Released in 2004, it peaked at No. 2 on the pop albums chart and went on to be certified three times Platinum

Happy People/U Saved Me" serves as Kelly's own personal "Best of Both both the singer's love for stepping (a Midwest-based dance craze) and need for salvation. Happy People" is the more upbeat of the two discs with Kelly taking on the persona of the Weatherman, a DJ on the fictional LOVE radio station. The album's title track and lead single is a perfect introduction to its infectious sound  . This is one reason why I find the second album 'U Saved Me' so confusing. I have nothing at all negative to say regarding R Kelly's apparent religious beliefs. After all it's coming from not only his connection to the age old spiritual/secular bridge in R&B but the same place that (partly) got the black community in particular to where they are now.

Happy People is the sort of record that is destined to become the soundtrack to a season. Nostalgia is built into the album with its overt references to chipper funk legend Bill Withers and the slow grooves of Marvin Gaye. Kelly seems focused; the melodies are loose and melismatic, the beats are spacious and direct. What is offered is not something original, so much as purely satisfying. Kelly instinctually understands the insatiable human demand for popular dance beats as he declares on the opening track, this "music ain't music, but hit music". The Sinner-Kelly is rich, charming, and famous, whereas the Saved-Kelly is a humble regular-guy who faces life's struggles with Job-like faith. The two discs are so different both musically and substantively that it seems as though Kelly views his two selves as irreconcilable. For Kelly, life is nothing but a binge-and-purge cycle of sin.
