Steve Tibbetts (born 1954) is an American guitarist and composer. He views the recording studio as a tool for creating sounds. Most of his albums include percussionist Marc Anderson. Tibbetts plays acoustic and electric guitar and exotic percussive instruments such as the kendang and kalimba. His music has been described as rock, jazz, rock, ambient, experimental, and world music. Tibbets refers to it as "postmodern neo-primitivism". The resulting album of totally self realized songs is great fun to listen to, as he used the studio as an instrument, mixing tape loops and effects with impressionistic acoustic guitar playing. Even at this young age, he's equally at home with finger style guitar, psychedelic and world musics, and the soundscapes he creates are both introspective and adventurous. Retrieved 8 October 2012. His first two records were created when he was in college. The second, Yr, although self-published, gained a degree of notice, especially from fans of the electric guitar. That record featured many overdubs, on one track as many as 50 overdubs creating a unique soundscape.

Recorded at home using just multiple guitars, synth, and tape effects/ processing, this achieves an unholy mix of finger-style guitar Americana with the psychedelic spirit and effects of Jimi Hendrix.

  • Absolutely incredible LP. Continues to amaze me to this day. Contains some completely unexpected twists and turns, like very skilled (and pretty) acoustic guitar fingerpicking that melts into electric, almost Prog-like shredding, with washes of mind boggling tape effects and bizarre percussion. An intriguing early use of electronic experimentation puts Tibbetts in a category all his own. Seriously, listen to this and his second album, "YR", and you might just have your feelings changed about music in general. These are two of the few albums that I will classify under pure genius.
