The close of the disco-era was far from the end of Patrick Adams career. In the 1980s he would lend his creative genius to such notable acts as Salt N Pepa, Keith Sweat and Carol Lynn Townes. In the 1990s he helmed recordings by Eric B. & Rakim, Paul Lekakis and Morris Day. But the focus here is on the years he spent with Peter Brown and P&P. Years where he was at his creative zenith as an arranger, composer, and performer. This is Patrick Adams Best Of P&P Records<

Patrick Adams' Best of P&P Records is the miniaturized version of the 15-disc P&P Records: Hits Hits Hits. The latter, which contains a good chunk of essential disco and old-school rap, retailed for just over twice the amount of the former. This provides a brief overview of Adams' self-released singles of the mid- to late '70s and early '80s - simultaneously raw and elegant soul-disco that switches between dazed/carefree ("Disco Juice," "Atmosphere Strut") and spiritual ("God Save and Protect All the Children,".

In 1974 Adams left Perception Records (5)/Today Records and started his own production company, Patrick Adams Productions, Inc. He met Peter Brown of P&P Records through mutual friend Lonnie Johnson and started producing experimental records for Peter's many labels. He also formed a musical collective called the The .

The cleverly deceptive genius Patrick Adams was born March 17, 1950 in New York City. Some people are just destined for greatness and Adams was one of those. He wrote his first song at 12, recorded his first record at 16 and produced his first track at 17. It would take several more years for the world to realize his genius. In 1974 Patrick teamed up with Peter Brown to form P&P Records. The label was distributed by Morris Levy's Roulette Records and housed the sub-labels Queen Constance, Heavenly Star, Jay Star, Chocolate Star Records and many more. He also started PAPMUS his own production company. During the next four years, as Disco was emerging, Adams became a key figure in its growth scoring countless hits including: "Atmosphere Strut" with Cloud One, "My Baby's Got . with Four Below Zero, and "Lady Bug" by Bumblebee Unlimited.

This snazzy box of seven 7-inch singles, originally released on P&P and various related labels, with A and B sides intact, should delight anyone who appreciates the thrillingly twisted New York club experiments conducted by Peter Brown and Patrick Adams during the mid-70s.

  • Track 12 here, or D2 on the vinyl release, is The Musicmakers "Jump, Jump, Jump". Although not labeled as such it is an instrumental version, not the vocal. I've only heard the version that was included on Suss'd Records' Deep Disco Culture Vol. 1 which is a vocal, presumably the same vocal that is on the original Queen Constance pressing. The notes for the Queen Constance pressing state that the instrumental was not actually included there so is this the first appearance of the "Jump, Jump, Jump" instrumental?

  • The 12" has on both sides the vocal version So I think you're right, this is the first time
