Philharmonia Orchestra & Peter Ustinov. PERFORMER: Philharmonia Orchestra. FEATURED ARTIST: Peter Ustinov. More from this artist. Philharmonia Orchestra. Tell us what you think.

Peter Ustinov, the late British actor, narrates the story, which is interspersed with musical excerpts. Ustinov brings charm and warmth to Iris reading; his somewhat rumbling voice, as it modulates through the high and low notes, lends a certain distinction to the text without being at all pretentious, In between his narration, the Toronto Philharmonia under the direction of Walter Babiak plays excerpts from the orchestral repertoire that correspond with each part of the book. The recording begins with sounds of nature as Ustinov declares, "Music is everywhere  . A member of the orchestra plays a few lines of music unaccompanied, after which the instrument is named and described.
