Endless Summer is a compilation album by American rock band the Beach Boys, released on June 24, 1974. Its unexpected success bore immediate consequences for the band's then-progressive musical direction.

It was the summer of 1974, and the Beach Boys were still trying to get themselves back on track commercially after a seven-year commercial dry spell, when this double LP of their 1963-1966 material (all but one cut pre-dating Pet Sounds) came along and did the job. Endless Summer, which was assembled in consultation with Mike Love, soared to number one and charted high over two subsequent summers (spending three years on the charts, the longest of any of the group's albums), and attracted the enthusiastic attention of millions of listeners too young to have bought their singles back when.

Endless Summer" is a 1974 collection of their 1963-1966 material (all but one cut predating "Pet Sounds"). The compilation displays a number of oddities, including the inclusion of album versions of "Be True To Your School", "Help Me Ronda", and "Fun, Fun, Fun" instead of the hit-single versions, a difference which is subtle in the last case, but more prominent in the first two. Initial pressings of this album contained a poster depicting an airplane flying a Beach Boys banner.

Endless Summer is a compilation album by American rock band the Beach Boys, released on June 24, 1974. Its unexpected success bore immediate consequences on the band's then-progressive musical direction. In 1992, Mike Love noted, "They were going to do a Best Of The Beach Boys Volume Three in 19-, whatever the hell it was, and I came in there and went, "Wait a second, call it Endless Summer, instead of being Volume Three which sound nauseating to me. Endless Summer has a whole other vibe to it and sold several million copies just with the switch of the title. But then I'm a title guy anyway.

The Beach Boys - Endless Summer (1999). Endless summer, well I wish there was such a thing. The BB were one of the relatively few groups that fired my imagination as a kid. The idea of a life devoted to the sea, cars, and, I suppose, girls (I was only 10) seemed to be perfect. This music epitomised that era. I bought this recently because my daughter (aged 12) has now discovered surfing and it seemed right to introduce her to this style of music. We bought a 'best of' album which has all the favourites, this album, however, has a little overlap but half of it is new to me. The 'vibe' is still good though.
