French film composer Georges Delerue was a master of understatement whose resumé is one of the most impressive to be found among any composer working in the cinema; he scored more than 270 features and TV films, 35 TV series, and 125 short films, in addition to a small amount of conventional concert music. This is taken from the authentic soundtrack music for four key Delerue titles; Jean Luc Godard's Le Mépris (Contempt, 1963), Alain Cavalier's film noir L'Insoumis (The Unvanquished, 1964), François Truffaut's Les Deux Anglaises et le Continent (Two English Girls, 1971), and finally a symphonic suite drawn from the score of Truffaut's Jules.

The absurdly talented Georges Delerue was the composer for the French New Wave movement, penning scores for everyone from Godard to Resnais, but his greatest association was with Truffaut. These tracks showcase Delerue's creative use of lush classical themes, French cabaret music and even American folk, to enhance Truffaut's finest works.

Georges Delerue died on 20 March 1992 from a heart attack in Los Angeles at the age of 67, just after recording the last cue for the soundtrack to Rich in Love. He is buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California Filmography.
