Album · 2005 · 2 Songs. The result will no doubt be widely heard in fashionable restaurants on at least two continents, but more to the point, Cullum works his charm on the solitary listener too. As Twentysomething did in the UK, this album is likely to make him a star in the . Catching Tales Jamie Cullum.

Jamie Cullum, Catching Tales. Theoretically at least, that moment should be irrelevant to Jamie Cullum. The 25-year-old t singer is the antithesis of a manufactured pop star. He served a tough apprenticeship playing on cruise ships and at weddings, and hails from the world of jazz, which has been proudly supplying popular music with disreputable characters for almost a century.

Twentysomething, the album from whence Cullum’s overly earnest riff on Thom Yorke and C. s High & Dry sprang, was roughly 50 minutes of thin, mostly unremarkable hep-cat compositions that referenced many but equaled none. It’s not an altogether successful approach ( Mind Trick, 21st Century Kid and London Skies are just dull and no amount of stylistic tweaks can save ‘em), but given the bland soccer-mom ambitions of his debut, Cullum has at least shaken and stirred his sound enough to warrant keeping an eye on his future.

Catching Tales is the fourth album by Jamie Cullum. It was released in late September 2005 in the United Kingdom and a few weeks later in the United States. This release followed Twentysomething, Cullum's biggest seller to date. Like that album, Cullum performs some original material as well as some covers and standards. The first single from the album was "Get Your Way", followed by "Mind Trick" later in 2005. In 2006, "Photograph" was released as a single.

Jamie Cullum returns to center stage of the jazz crossover world with an incredible new album, Catching Tales. A smorgasbord of jazz standards, pop, swing, and r&b grooves, this is the ultimate Jamie Cullum album. Jamie has collaborated with a range of music svengalis, including Guy Chambers, Dan the Automator (from the Gorillaz and collaborations with DJ Shadow), Salaam Remi, Ed Harcourt, and many more, but he's careful not to forget his roots. His brother Ben has cowritten a number of tracks on this album, as he did on Twentysomething. Give "Catching Tales" a listen. Absolutely a wonderful album. With one tiny, tiny proviso: if you get a chance to see Jamie live, by all means, DO IT! Onstage is where the guy is totally in his element.
