Spectrum is the debut solo album by jazz fusion drummer Billy Cobham. The album was heavily influenced by the music of Miles Davis, with whom Cobham had previously collaborated extensively, and Cobham's previous band Mahavishnu Orchestra. The song "Stratus" appears in the video game Grand Theft Auto IV of the radio station "Fusion FM", as well as being the main sample in the Massive Attack hit "Safe from Harm".

Even though 1973 seemed like a year in transition for so many artists, none of them really made a bad album. The best records of the year weren't necessarily career-defining or even the artists' best work in some cases, but most of classic rock's biggest names - including Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and the Who - released great albums in 1973. In fact, we'd go as far as to say that every LP on our list of the Top 10 Albums from 1973 belongs in every collection.

Most of the selections showcase Cobham in a quartet with keyboardist Jan Hammer, guitarist Tommy Bolin, and electric bassist Lee Sklar. Two other numbers include Joe Farrell on flute and soprano and trumpeter Jimmy Owens with guitarist John Tropea, Hammer, bassist Ron Carter, and Ray Barretto on congas.

  • this is a great live show from 1973, this is on a 2 cd set and both discs are SILVER not a cdr copy, these both discs sound awesome and the sound has been enhanced since the viynl edition back in the 70s, here we get the full show, this belongs in any who fans collection if you are a who collector, this no label also has quite a few other killer who shows from the late 60s and up to 1979 that all sound great.....
