Sound Affects is the fifth studio album by British rock band the Jam. The cover art is a pastiche of the artwork used on various Sound Effects records produced by the BBC during the 1970s. It is their only album co-produced by the band, and contains the only album track co-written by the entire band, "Music for the Last Couple". The album was released on 28 November 1980.

Unhappy with the slicker approach of Setting Sons, the Jam got back to basics, using the direct, economic playing of All Mod Cons and "Going Underground," the simply brilliant single which preceded Sound Affects by a few months

The Jam. Sound Affects ‎(Cass, Album). Polydor, Polydor, Polydor. The Jam. Sound Affects ‎(LP, Album). this was a great deluxe two cd release back in 2010, i would say it is safe to say the vaults are pretty empty now regarding the sound affects sessions from 1980, the second disc consists of rough demos and unreleased stuff up to the point of 2010 ( 30 years) this also comes with a really nice booklet w/ great photos and essays. regarding the sound affects peroid. Responder Notifique-me Helpful.

Sound Affects, the fifth album by The Jam, is a little jarring compared to All Mod Cons and Setting Sons because it has such a strong live sound in comparison with earlier work and is far, far more danceable. You can hear James Brown, late 70s post punk, and Sam Cooke all over this album, and "Scrape Away", the last track, resembles "Shout", with Weller, Foxton, and Buckler gleefully jamming on the chorus in the last few minutes (though they were clearly smart enough to stop when they were ahead). The Jam rose above accusations of commercial hackery because they played brilliantly together and that absolutely shines through on this record. That and that the songs are so, so fucking good.

Is Sound Affects the best album by The Jam? BestEverAlbums. com brings together thousands of 'greatest ever album' charts and calculates an overall ranking. This album At A Glance. Sound Affects by The Jam (1980) Overall rank: 1,002nd.

But Sound Affects, the Jam’s 1980 release, trumps those achievements in its ambition. Many a hippie music teacher has rambled about uniting the world through song, and in choosing the title he did, Weller, in his own misanthropic way, was praising music’s ability to make an emotional connection with its listeners. It’s also a testament to the nods to psychedelia running throughout the album, from the dreamy feel of Monday to reverb echoes on a variety of songs. Though they reach for homage, the music is clearly their own.

I am 13 and I can say this is better than the modern rubbish. It might sound a little biased but the Brits have produced the best music in the world and this Album is testimony to that!! Peace and love to every other country though.

Ultimately Sound Affects shows a band that was being pushed by its leader slightly beyond their level of ability. Buckler and Foxton's propulsive acumen was already falling behind Weller’s ambitions. After the full-on soul revival of The Gift he was to abandon the three-piece for pastures new. But on this album you get to hear the Jam at their absolute peak.
